The role of the Open Water Lifeguard is to provide supervision, hazard spotting, accident prevention and providing immediate emergency assistance at open water swimming and triathlon events or any events where members of the public may be exposed to open water.
Our Open Water Lifeguard training covers;
Once qualified, our Lifeguards can undertake additional training in the use of paddlecraft (sit-on kayaks and paddleboards) to assist with event safety cover and performing rescues.
The RLSS first introduced this service in 1932 when The RLSS Life Guard Corps was inaugurated.
Our Open Water Lifeguard training covers;
- Performing water-based skills in an open water environment
- Demonstrating combined rescue without equipment in an open water environment
- Performing emergency response techniques including resuscitation and first aid techniques
- Learning about a range of conditions associated with rescues
- Developing and implementing strategies to manage emergencies
- Identifying and describing issues related to the facility/workplace
